It’s time for these two to connect for real.
For nearly a year and a half, General Hospital has been teasing a pairing between Spencer Cassadine and Trina Robinson that has yet to come to fruition. Their angst has given us a classic star-crossed romance — but without the actual romance, and that’s where the problem lies.
GH: Slow And Steady Doesn’t Always Win The Race
Since the two teenagers first met in a park in the summer of 2021, a typical soap opera love story is always full of twists, turns, near-misses, and almost-confessions. However, in the case of GH’s Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and Trina (Tabyana Ali), that has gone on for far too long with hardly any movement. We have witnessed Trina fall in love with a boy who gave her a false name, stay in love with him after learning his true identity, and then have the ground ripped out from under her when his girlfriend arrived in town prepared to lay claim to her man.
We now know that Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl), who was that girlfriend’s girlfriend, is a megasociopath and that her parents, Heather Webber (Alley Mills) and Ryan Chamberlain, are sociopaths supreme (Jon Lindstrom). Esme was the thorn every budding soap romance needed and in the name of jealousy, immaturity, and wrath, she committed some rather awful acts against Trina. By the time Spencer had moved on from Esme, the drama introduced Officer Rory Cabrera (Michael Blake Kruse), a far blander third wheel, whose purpose we never quite grasped.

General Hospital Killed Rory So Let’s Get A Move On
When Rory ended up being hooked rather than being The Hook, as many fans had believed, GH may have recognized Spencer/Trina/Rory was not the triangle they wanted and opted to terminate things. (Perhaps he would have been more interesting if he had been The Hook.) Are we still going to see Spencer and Trina dream about revealing their feelings, almost confess their feelings, or swear to never confess their feelings now that Rory is dead? That has gotten really, really old by this time, so we sure hope not.
Spencer and Trina have been dating for for 18 months, yet they have never even kissed or expressed their love for one another. Fans have come to know them as Sprina, and they are hugely popular on social media. Despite the fact that they have been the plainly planned couple for a long time, fans haven’t been given anything to root for.
It’s true that Trina’s actress changed along the way when Sydney Mikayla decided to drop out, but Tabyana Ali has been portraying the part for nine months already, and chemistry has already been formed between her and Chavez. What is GH now waiting for, then? It’s time to fully develop Sprina’s love story since continuing to put off this decision is unfair to the actors, the characters, and the audience.
