What actually occurred in Port Charles 60 years ago is known to us!
The 60th anniversary of General Hospital is approaching, and Bobbie and Felicia are getting ready to throw a Nurses Ball to celebrate. Playing-dead Lucy laments missing out on the excitement. But we’re thinking about something else. Is the first program, which broadcast on April 1, 1963, the institution’s first day of operation if this year marks the 60th anniversary of the physical hospital?
General Hospital: Let’s Go To the Video Tape!
That certainly wasn’t how it felt at the time. You can plainly see Nurse Jessie (Emily McLaughlin) moving through the halls as if she knows where she’s going if you watch the full clip (see below). On the first day at a new work site, there was none of the usual scanning of signs and double-checking of location.
Patients who have been present for a while are also present. There is a lady who has her face heavily bandaged, and Jessie tells her, “Not again!” while Steve (John Bernadino) advises her to stop complaining and just be thankful to be living. Excellent bedside demeanor, indeed. Was this clearly traumatized woman just brought in from somewhere else, as were the people behind other doors that Steve charges Angie of disturbing? Medically dangerous, that sounds!
GH: Marital Trouble
While Phill (Roy Thinnes) locates his wife Jessie with similar ease, Peggy, Steve’s partner, storms out of the hospital in a huff after her doctor beau dumps her for a patient without even asking where the entrance is. Additionally, they are aware of where to go to locate a quiet place to battle. Additionally, we have the impression that this is not the first time this area has been used.
We’re attempting to imply that nobody’s first day anywhere is obvious. And GH’s gaslighting will never persuade us otherwise!
