This woman should be front and center — not falling from the back-burner off the stove!
Alexis Davis is a lawyer. That is the first thing that General Hospital needs to get straight when writing this character. She is not a reporter, she is not an editor, she is not a journalist. Alexis is a lawyer. She is a messy lawyer, she is a brilliant lawyer, and she needs to get back to being a lawyer. She also needs a storyline. A real storyline. Where she gets to be a lawyer — one who is preferably on the front burner.
General Hospital Relegates Alexis Davis To A Talk To
We just witnessed Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) relapse into drinking when her most recent partner, Neil Byrne (Joe Flanigan), passed away in her bed following a steamy night of sex. She became much more depressed after learning she had osteoporosis, which caused her to become insanely intoxicated and stab Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) while thinking he was Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) and about to harm her daughter, Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco).
Alexis entered a guilty plea and after a brief stint in Pentonville, moved to Spring Ridge for a lengthier period of time. There, characters came and went and spent months upon months venting their issues to Alexis in the recreation room. When Alexis was freed and made friends with former cult leader Harmony Miller (Inga Cadranel), a woman who nearly had Alexis’s daughter Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Lexi Ainsworth) raped but who appeared to be reforming herself with a position at Spring Ridge, we believed we were finally making progress.
Additionally, GH made the decision at that time that Alexis could no longer practice law and would have to take on the role of editor of the Invader because the show’s creators were unable to find any ways for her to regain her legal license in the fictional state of Upstate New York. Unfortunately, because Stephanie Erb temporarily filled in for Alexis while Nancy Lee Grahn recovered from back surgery, we were never even given the chance to see the full effects of GH’s decision to reveal that Harmony was responsible for Neil’s death. Fans of this long-running lively character have experienced nothing but disappointment since Grahn’s reappearance.
Alexis Needs A Real Purpose…And A Real Love Interest
For months on end, we’ve been lucky if we have seen Alexis once every couple of weeks, and nearly every time we have seen her, she’s been stuck in banter with Gregory Chase in what seems like a forced pairing. While Gregory Harrison is a fine actor, he just doesn’t seem right for Alexis.
Additionally, he treats her with disrespect when he doesn’t have to and acts as though he must mansplain everything to her, despite the fact that Alexis is a woman who has never, ever needed mansplaining. Gregory now resembles his father’s son Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton), who mansplains everything to Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst), another lady who doesn’t require a man to explain the ins and outs of life, in a very striking way.
A serial killer known as The Hook is currently being sought by by journalist Alexis, who also has a legal instinct. However, this only occurs approximately every seven to ten days when A) the soap opera recalls there is a serial killer in Port Charles and B) it remembers it included Alexis in this tale.
Since about a year ago, Alexis hasn’t had a tale that is solely about her, except from teasing Gregory about running The Invader and discovering The Hook. Because Carly Spencer dominates practically every plot, she even hijacked the Alexis-focused Neil death disclosure storyline. It’s time for Alexis to tell her own tale, meet the true love of her life, and simply be the lawyer she was always destined to be.
