For a tense reconciliation, Denise Crosby took Carolyn Webber to General Hospital.
The long-absent Dr. Carolyn Webber first came out as a little bit too aloof from her daughter Elizabeth, but Denise Crosby, who played the role, demonstrated that there was space for improvement in the familial dynamic. This week’s Soap Hub Performer of the Week for GH goes to Crosby for her role as a mother who can adapt.

Oddly, Elizabeth’s parents, Jeff and Carolyn Webber, had never been to Port Charles to share in any of their daughter’s triumphs or tragedies throughout the previous 25 years. Since she wouldn’t recall that she had shoved Jeff’s mistress and Finn’s wife down a flight of stairs, Jeff (William Moses) and Carolyn sent “Lizzie,” as Carolyn called her, away. This explanation was developed by the current GH creative team.
Carolyn appeared aloof to her daughter when we first met her. She didn’t seem to care for her. It turns out that the response is an unequivocal yes. Carolyn was sent to Port Charles by Nikolas (Adam Huss) to test out her mind-controlling abilities on the troubled Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl). Carolyn soon became aware that she had to make a decision. Would she make the same choice again or would she change her mind?
Lizzie was warned about Nickolas by Carolyn when she was in General Hospital. Knowing she wouldn’t be able to get through to her daughter, Carolyn gave Lizzie what she thought would be good news: that she was leaving Port Charles. As in the past, she made the decision not to keep Lizzie in the dark. When asked about her dealings with Nikolas and how he wanted her to assist him in keeping Esme under control, Carolyn spoke honest.
By turning down Nikolas’ plea, Carolyn was admitting that she had erred in choosing her daughter. Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst, who has been consistent throughout this drama) was unavoidably moved by her mother’s promise that she wouldn’t engage in mind games in the future. She appeared to be saying, “It’s too bad you didn’t feel this way about me.”
“I am aware that Nikolas Cassadine has been a part of your life since high school and has been present for certain crucial occasions that your dad and I were unable to attend. But believe me when I say this: He is not your buddy,” Carolyn pleaded with her daughter. “I don’t think he has your best interests in mind,” the speaker said.
This honest exchange between mother and daughter ultimately proved to be a turning point. Carolyn continued, using her chosen name for her daughter, “Elizabeth,” “I wish, well, so many things.” “I want to earn your forgiveness someday.” Elizabeth thanked her mother for addressing her by the name she had requested her use as Carolyn started to leave. Carolyn said, with tears in her eyes, “You’re very welcome, Elizabeth,” as she walked away, perhaps not completely out of her daughter’s life.
It was wrong for Jeff and Carolyn to be absent from their daughter’s life. Denise Crosby and William Moses play doctors and serve as Elizabeth’s mother and father, therefore their appearances at General Hospital would be appreciated at any moment.
Honorable Mentions: As their respective characters, Portia and Stella, went wedding dress shopping, Brook Kerr and two-time Daytime Emmy winner Vernee Watson-Johnson were engaging. Portia’s desire to reunite the family had a profound impact on Stella. But it was obvious that Stella wanted to deal with Trina’s unresolved paternity.
