Soap Hub Performer Of The Week For GH: Bonnie Burroughs

Bonnie Burroughs is the television’s beloved Gladys since Samantha Stephens’ intrusive neighbor on General Hospital.

Fortunately, despite her son Brando’s tragic demise, Gladys Corbin, portrayed by scene-stealer Bonnie Burroughs, has continued to appear on General Hospital. There have been moments when we’ve just wished to give her a huge embrace instead of screaming at her. We wished to do both recently.

Watching Gladys attempt to alter her methods in the same scene and, unfortunately, failing is entertaining. She explained to Selina Wu (Lydia Look) that it would be best for them to not meet at the gambling establishment known as The Savoy because she doesn’t make wise decisions there as she was trying to win at some internet wagering. Gladys sold her late son’s garage to the female mafia leader because, of course, it was those poor decisions that left her in debt to Selina.

After they had finished their transaction, Selina tempted Gladys to keep playing, but she prudently declined. Burroughs made the decision to have Gladys fold her arms in an effort to prevent her from making an expensive decision. We feel like we know Gladys in large part because of Burroughs, so we don’t anticipate her keeping her promise to abstain from gambling for an extended period of time.

Gladys has been referring to Sonny (Maurice Benard) as her relative or “cuz” for some time. Unaware that Sonny found it grating and eventually stopped it, she considers it charming. Gladys was about to accept Sonny’s offer of assistance when we noticed it, but the yard sale had already ended. Gladys’ eyes began to water, as if she had recognized she had placed her confidence in the wrong gangster, and Burroughs used this to convey the sorrow she was feeling in the scene.

A fight between the daughter-in-law and mother-in-law resulted from Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) learning from Cody (Josh Kelly) that Gladys had sold Brando’s garage across town. On paper, Gladys and Sasha might not seem to get along, but in the end, their shared passion for Brando brings them together rather than sets them against one another.

Gladys wasn’t prepared to publicly admit that part of the reason she decided to sell Brando’s carport was to cover a gambling start. But that doesn’t make the explanations she did offer any less genuine.

Gladys erupted and told Sasha that she had sold that carport on her behalf! She is also grieving for her baby. Gladys explained to Sasha that she finds it challenging to manage expenses that are sent to Brando on a monthly basis. (Well, aside from the payment due to Selina!)

Gladys revealed that in order to move on with her life, she sold the carport. Even though we are aware that this is not the only explanation, Burroughs persuaded us to think Gladys holds this to be a portion of her reality. Gladys said to Sasha, “I’m apologetic if that makes you despise me. It was simply a risk I had to accept.

When deceiving, it is advised to include as much truth as you can because people are more likely to believe your tale. It’s difficult to determine how much of Gladys’ tirade against her daughter-in-law was reality. We have no reason to question her earnestness when she gave Sasha an embrace after the two women sobbed.

But if Sasha ever finds out about this deception, we have a strong suspicion that she won’t be pleased. Gladys also sold Brando’s carport to pay off some obligations. That doesn’t change Gladys’ assertion that selling Brando’s carport will enable her to move on with her life, though. Bravo to Bonnie Burroughs for portraying a frustrating, adoring, erratic, and all-too-human character.
