He’s been called the King of Latin Pop and the Latin Music King. And now, Ricky Martin, global singing sensation, songwriter, actor, author, and humanitarian, has even more to celebrate.

And that’s because this multi-talented performer is celebrating his 51st birthday today. He was born on December 24, 1971, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. At the age of nine, Martin started working by appearing in ads for goods including soft drinks, toothpaste, and eateries.
Martin joined the Puerto Rican boy band Menudo when he was 12 years old, performing with them for the following five years. He then participated in the production of Mom Loves Rock.
Next was the feature film adaptation of the Mexican telenovela Alcanzar una Estrella II. The Spanish-language Ricky Martin was Martin’s debut solo album, which was published in 1991.
The record was successful, and it opened the door for a follow-up project called Me Amaras (1993). Martin came to the United States in 1994 and was cast in the comedy Getting By. After that, he appeared on the ABC daytime soap series General Hospital for two years as Miguel Morez.
After refocusing on his musical career in the second half of the 1990s, Martin released a string of popular albums, including A Medio Vivir (1995), Vuelve (1998), and his debut English-language album, Ricky Martin (1999).
Martin put out five more albums during the following 20 years. He also kept on doing things. His credits include a 2012 cameo appearance on Glee and the American Crime Story season that focused on the murder of Gianni Versace. He portrayed Antonio D’Amico, the lover of the tragic designer. Martin has voiced the Latin American versions of a number of well-known cartoon characters, including as Hercules (1997) and Herb Overkill from Minions (2015).
More than 200 honors have been given to Martin throughout the course of his career, including two Grammy Awards, five Latin Grammy Awards, five MTV Video Music Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, and two America Music Awards. In 2007, he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In addition, he is well known for his activism, which has included promoting LGBT rights, acting as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, and establishing the Ricky Martin Foundation, whose goal is to promote the welfare of children all around the world.
Santiago the Dreamer in Land Among the Stars, a children’s book, and Martin’s autobiography, Me, are both published works.
Jwan Yosef and Martin have been wed since 2018. Four children total—twin sons Matteo and Valentino (born in August 2008), Lucia Martin-Yosef (born on December 31, 2018), Renn Martin-Yosef—are being raised by the couple together (born October 20, 2019).
