He used to be a likable character but this year saw him become unrecognizable.
Hamilton Finn first arrived on the Port Charles scene in 2016 after Michael Easton’s previous General Hospital character, Silas Clay, didn’t work out and was unceremoniously killed off.
Hamilton Finn Seemed Like A Decent Guy
Finn (Michael Easton) was a peculiar character back then who appeared to be kind of nice but was undoubtedly concealing something. We eventually discovered that he had Blackwood’s Disease, a condition that had already taken the life of his wife. In an effort to find a cure, he used himself as a test subject and developed an addiction to a potent narcotic. His eccentricity also allowed us to get to know Roxy, his pet lizard, who was helping to find a cure.
We saw Finn fall in love with Hayden Barnes (Rebecca Budig) as she helped him get through withdrawal, and when Hayden became infected, he finally discovered the cure. He even saved General Hospital with the proceeds from the cure. A hero! She eventually told Hayden she was pregnant, and they had plans to get married. However, she was expelled from town and told Finn she had miscarried the child.
In Walks Anna Devane…And Out Walks Finn
Strangely enough, Finn helped WSB agent Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) with a case and the two unexpectedly started dating. Even when Hayden came with Violet Finn (Jophielle Love), their daughter, and then vanished, leaving Finn and Anna to parent the child, Finn picked Anna.
We could cheer for Anna and Finn because they were a cute couple, but when Finn found out Anna had lied about Peter August (Wes Ramsey) not being her son and being a criminal, he left her at the altar. Fans then began to view him slightly differently. It seemed like a major change was about to occur because of how harsh he was with Anna. And so it was.
Hamilton Finn Becomes Obsessed With Elizabeth
The soap opera also killed off Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) at the same time that Finn deserted Anna, leaving his wife, Elizabeth Webber Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst), a widow with three young sons. We still don’t know why Finn and Anna’s split and the brutal killing of the popular Franco were both done in order for GH to connect Liz and Finn.
There is no pizzazz or passion, no chemistry between the characters, and they have hardly ever gone on a date. Finn is actually acting almost stalker-like toward Elizabeth right now. He follows her around obsessively, attempts to instruct her how to live her life, and disregards any boundaries she sets. We nearly forgot that we ever liked him and why, but since being coupled with this long-time favorite character, he has become utterly unlikeable.
We remembered when GH granted him several scenes with Anna after that. Just being outside of Elizabeth’s sphere makes Finn into a character we can enjoy once more. We were reminded that Finn can be a funny, affable guy with people he cares about, but apparently not with people he is obsessed with, in a welcome scene at the Port Charles Police Department jail.
Does that imply that a Fanna reunion is desired? No, Anna and Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) are a better match and work much better together than Finn and Anna. However, if Finn is not with Elizabeth, we can start to appreciate him again. We’d even appreciate him more if you paired him with Ava Jerome (Maura West), with whom he underwent a chemical test on the nail shop set. Simply put, he cannot be with Elizabeth. The end of that. All GH needs to do is that. Finn can be mended if Elizabeth and you take them out of each other’s lives. Voila!
