Emma Samms looks back on a fabulous return as Holly Sutton on GH.
Holly Sutton may have walked off into the night air on General Hospital, but Emma Samms says that she may someday bring her character back to the ABC soap opera. The actress chatted with Soap Hub from across the pond to reflect on her most recent visit to Port Charles.
Emma Samms — Holly Rose Like a Phoenix
The episode swiftly revealed that Holly’s escape from the cabin while it was on fire was a deception to free her from Victor Cassadine’s (Charles Shaughnessy) grasp. Viewers may have thought that Holly’s future really went up in flames.
The moment Holly left the canvas and was free to look for her son Ethan Lovett, Samms recalls, “It was the perfect finale in the sense that it wasn’t truly an ending” (Nathan Parsons). It opened the way for Holly and Robert [Scorpio, Tristan Rogers] to accomplish so much more.
After Holly’s boyfriend Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary), who was thought to have died in an avalanche, Samms and Rogers became the show’s leading couple in 1983. Robert bravely offered to marry a pregnant Holly in order to save her from being sent back to England, where she had no family. Holly miscarried Luke’s child later on, and she and Robert started dating seriously. “To have worked with someone for forty years in any capacity is a very long time! “Samms comments. I hoped the audience could tell how much I was looking forward to working with Tristan once more.

Ironically, Shaughnessy’s first appearance on GH was in 1984, when he portrayed Holly’s cousin Alistair Durbin. Samms says, “I was so excited to meet Charles again. I’m happy to report that even with such a serious story and him playing such a nasty villain, it was just as much fun this time around. “I had never forgotten what a pleasure it had been working with him before all those years ago,” said the author.
Samms claims that executive producer Frank Valentini and his staff made her experience as simple as possible despite the fact that soap operas shoot at a much faster pace and she has been battling COVID for a long time. By the last day, which was unusually long, she admits, “I found myself really struggling.” “I felt relieved to return home! To be honest, I’m still healing from the stress of working those few weeks.
Emma Samms — Holly, Jolly Christmas
Now, Samms plans on taking it easy for the holidays. “My Christmas will have to be a quiet one,” the actress says. “My niece will be bravely cooking for family this year!”
Emma Samms is hoping to finally enter the door that has been left open for Holly’s homecoming. Especially now that I’ve seen how well these authors know the characters and can create such a beautiful narrative, Samms says, “I’d love to come back to General Hospital again, to meet all my great friends there and continue Holly’s adventures.” “We’re crossing our fingers it’ll work out.”
