Finally we are seeing the Liz we know and love!
It was 25 years ago when General Hospital introduced us to a teenage girl smoking a cigarette on Audrey Hardy’s porch, looking as if she’d already seen enough of life, but life had much more in store for Liz Webber as fans spent that entire quarter of a century waiting to learn what came before.
Liz Webber: A Shadow Of Her Former Self
Fans also questioned why Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) never spoke to her parents during those 25 years, but at least she kept us thoroughly entertained. Liz never cowered in a corner and never really needed a man to take care of her despite marriages, children, lies, shady schemes, and heartbreak.
Her oldest son even told Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) that Liz is the hero in her own story and doesn’t need to be saved any more, proving that she raised her three sons almost entirely on her own. The issue with Liz’s life over the past year or so has been that very thing. Despite Liz and Franco being a very well-liked couple, General Hospital bizarrely decided that killing off Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) was a good idea, causing her to become a widow.
A General Hospital Rush Job
She was forced directly into a chemistry-free pairing with Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton), in which Finn’s sentiments appeared to come before hers, rather than being given time to grieve her husband appropriately.
Then, a confusing plot that switched from a ghost story to a sleepwalking story to a stalker story made Elizabeth the poor damsel in distress who was pleading for Finn’s assistance and terrified of around every corner. What did General Hospital do with Elizabeth and who was this character? To bring Liz back to life, it was necessary to understand why her parents had really abandoned her.
‘No Cares Left’ Elizabeth Is The Liz We’ve Wanted To See
Elizabeth Webber (Denise Crosby) and the audience came to the conclusion that Liz was better off without these narcissistic people for the majority of her teenage years and throughout her adult life after witnessing Elizabeth confront her parents, Jeff Webber (William Moses) and Carolyn Webber (Denise Crosby) about how they abandoned her and eventually discovering why they did it.
The Elizabeth we have been missing since Franco’s death is the Elizabeth who just got back from California and had that startling reunion with her parents. She still has that manipulative streak, but she is fierce and her attitude is back. Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) may now understand she has met her match because she never knew the real Elizabeth and never thought Elizabeth had what it took to be just as cunning (without the psychopathic streak) as she is.
Liz needed to be taken out of her small island with Finn, who may have been her most unsatisfactory match in the 25 years she’s lived in Port Charles, and into another story with her high school best buddy. This was just what she and we needed. Now that GH has decided to completely drop the Elizabeth and Finn relationship, everything will be fine in her world. But not all. While we still wish Franco were alive, we understand that this is not possible.
