This GH plot twist with Nina Reeves made a regular storyline a great one!
The potential for a tried-and-true soap opera narrative was obvious as soon as General Hospital’s Willow fell ill and was given a leukaemia diagnosis. Eventually, Nina Reeves, her biological mother, would learn of their relationship, intervene, and save both her and her daughter.
Throwing A Nina Reeves Curve
However, the programme surprised audiences by choosing to depart from the conventional standard. Finally, it’s a courageous, wonderful shock that Nina (Cynthia Watros) decides not to save Willow (Katelyn MacMullen).
Yes, General Hospital had the option of taking the obvious path. Nina may have undergone testing and, in a less unexpected turn of events, been determined to be the ideal match to provide Willow with bone marrow. The plot would have been full of tension and passion, with a moving conclusion. After all, Willow would have been forced to accept a really hateful woman’s life-saving gift.
Changing GH Paths
However, Nina’s lack of compatibility has just increased the turmoil. Since realising she can’t intervene to save Willow and that she can’t, only by virtue of being Willow’s mother, make all of her health issues go away, Nina has been inconsolable. She never allowed herself to think about it. She now worries that she could lose a further daughter before having the chance to come to know and love her fully.
The stakes have increased from Willow, Michael (Chad Duell), and their family’s standpoint as well. They were all clinging to the possibility that Nina could be the one person who might aid Willow’s recovery despite their affections for her. They now have to wait and wait, wondering if Willow’s unborn child will be able to rescue the day. It has made an already dangerous situation much worse.
General Hospital Live or Die?
This is probably how Willow will be saved in the end. Even though the GH writers have a tendency to have terrible pregnancy stories, it’s difficult to picture them really dying her off. Keep in mind that Sasha’s (Sofia Mattsson) young son passed away not too long ago. Will survival be sufficient to offer Willow and Nina an opportunity to mend their relationship, or is that really a hope that has been lost?
