Happy Birthday Kimberly McCullough!

The talented actress and director who created the character more than 35 years ago is still just as busy as ever and is currently celebrating a very special milestone, even though it has been some time since Robin was last seen in Port Charles, the fictional hamlet at the centre of ABC’s General Hospital.

Happy Birthday, Kimberly McCullough

This is because the gifted multi-hyphenate was born on March 5, 1978, in Bellflower, California, making her 45 years old today! At the tender age of 7 months, McCullough made her on-screen début in a diaper advertisement alongside future Passions actress Juliet Mills.

McCullough was given a minor role in the 1984 breakdancing movie Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo. She tried to back that up with a cameo appearance on Webster but was rejected during the audition.

Instead, she auditioned for the part of Robin Scorpio, the soon-to-be-introduced daughter of Tristan Rogers’ and Anna Devane’s characters Robert Scorpio and Anna Devane on General Hospital (Finola Hughes). Before GH executives offered her the position, she had to pass another 11 assessments.

In the autumn of 1985, McCullough made his debut on the venerable ABC serial opera. She would ultimately win awards for the role, including the 1995 Oscar for Best Younger Actor and the 1989 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Juvenile Female. The latter honour was given for her outstanding performance in a plotline that saw Robin receive an HIV diagnosis.

McCullough took a quick retirement in 1996 to attend college, and her comeback in 1998 was only temporary. Instead, she opted to take several invitations to perform on primetime shows. Several of them included Undressed, Once and Again (where she frequently appeared alongside Evan Rachel Wood), DAG, ER, and Judging Amy. She also made an appearance in the movie Legally Blonde from 2002.

McCullough returned to GH for a longer run between October 2005 and March 2012 after a few quick cameos. She had made multiple visits in a guest capacity ever since July of that year.

She started working as a director in the interim, directing episodes of shows like Shake It Up, KC Undercover, Pretty Little Liars, Fuller House, One Day at a Time, The Conners, The Bold Type, Carol’s Second Act, High School Musical: The Musical, Fantasy Island, With Love, and How I Met Your Father since 2013.

The features Purple People Eater, Bugsy, and Consenting Adults, as well as segments of All My Children (as Robin), The Shield, Crossing Jordan, and CSI, are among McCullough’s additional acting accomplishments.
