Everyone is just trying to put up a nice show and spread love.
Any performer on daytime knows how difficult it can be to step in and take over a character, even for a short period. And it’s very much a guarantee that not all fans would react favourably when you’re hired to kill off a character, as Adam Huss was hired to do with Nikolas on General Hospital.
Huss confessed in a conversation with the podcast Heart and Soul Chat With the Stars that he had no idea that it had ever happened when he was originally asked to fill in for Marcus Coloma. He often tried out for parts on General Hospital, including those of Shiloh and Nikolas, but he was unsuccessful. As a result, he had never considered being a temporary sub, but he was more than willing to do it!
He was clear that he had no hidden plans to fully take control of Nikolas, though. “I was simply trying to come in and accomplish what I was paid for. I wasn’t attempting to take anyone’s job at all.”
He intended to carry it out as well as he could. He read up on Wikipedia, watched Nikolas episodes on YouTube, and even had a conversation with the show’s authors. He came in to fill in, was called back again for a few episodes, and then got this final, incredible chance.
He also emphasised that the fans have been overwhelmingly supportive and have been able to notice how much effort he put into the role.
He said, “I’m really pleased that the fans replied and that the majority of them are being so nice and encouraging. It’s been just fantastic,
Having said that, not everyone has reacted in that manner.
He stated, “I read comments with one eye open. “I hardly ever use Twitter anymore,”
just because certain people weren’t having it. And, whether you want to believe it or not, Huss “understands” it. I’m enthusiastic about people and I love TV, so I get it. There is emotion behind statements like “I adore Marcus” or “I want Tyler back,” but circumstances have changed and our situation has changed. Be receptive to alternative ideas.
Even if others might not have recognised him as Nikolas, “the main thing is? Be considerate. I went in there to perform a task, and I did it as skillfully and lovingly as I could. As a result, you must constantly remind yourself not to take something personally when one eye picks up something particularly hurtful. But holy crap, that was brutal.
He did receive a lot of nice feedback, regardless of whether people DMed him or just admired his performance online, despite the fact that there will probably always be haters out there. I’ll hang onto it because it makes me feel good and I know that the bulk of the buzz was positive.
He concluded by saying, “I come from love.” “I infused the character with affection. All I can do is that. Be compassionate.
