General Hospital spent 2021 changing up the couple dynamic and 2022 attempting to make new combinations popular. Sadly, very few of them succeeded, and the rest of the year has been spent undoing those that did. It did, however, succeed with one fresh romance: Anna Devane and Valentin Cassadine’s.
General Hospital Took Its Time With Vanna
Because they weren’t forced, sudden, or required a character to be mysteriously killed off for them to occur, perhaps Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) were the only new couple in 2022 to truly work. This is in contrast to Franco Baldwin’s (Roger Howarth) death so that Elizabeth Webber Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) could be paired with Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton).

Thankfully, GH chose that 2021 shuffle couple and decided to finally take advantage of what it had for years in Hughes and Stuart and finally go for it with Anna and Valentin.
GH: A ‘Grown Grown’ Couple That Oozes Sexy
The year 2022 began with that long-lasting New Year’s kiss at The Savoy, but viewers felt Vanna-deprived because Stuart was absent from the show for several months as he filmed The Villains of Valley View for Disney. In contrast to other couples this year who seemed to be thrown together without much thinking, Anna and Valentin actually went on a typical date to a drive-in movie. It felt like their relationship had been put on pause, but things finally picked up when he returned.
Finally, in October, six years of bottled up chemistry burst forth in a steamy love scene that ignited social media and prompted Hughes to refer to it as “grown grown” people having sex in an ABC interview, despite the fact that this is something we rarely see on soap operas despite it being quite common in real life.
While Anna has not yet confessed her love for Valentin, he has no trouble doing so because he has waited most of his life to be this fortunate with a woman he first met while they were both in spy school decades ago. Vanna can be characterized as a return to the love stories of the heyday of soap operas, so when the moment finally arrives, we anticipate love in the afternoon at its finest. They even play the lead roles in their own love-on-the-run tale as the year comes to a conclusion, proving “gown grown” individuals still have it in them.
