Help this General Hospital fan favorite celebrate his special day.
Appearances by Mac Scorpio are a rare treat on General Hospital, and fans are dying to find out what Mac will do when he finds out the truth about Cody Bell, but in the real world, beloved actor John J. York is celebrating a major milestone.
Happy Birthday, John J. York
That’s because this amazing performer, who was born on December 10, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois, is celebrating his 64th birthday right now! York’s first goal of becoming a professional football player was thwarted by the discovery of ulcerative colitis.
York studied marketing at the University of Whitewater in Wisconsin but later left to return to his home state to pursue acting studies with Edward Kaye-Martin. At the Wisdom Bridge Theatre, where he made his acting debut, he performed in such plays as Picnic, Loss of Roses, Career, and Golden Boy.
The charming actor moved to Los Angeles in 1983, took a job waiting tables, and started auditioning right away. He appeared in minor supporting roles in two high-profile shows that year, Dynasty and Arthur Hailey’s Hotel, as well as the television film Listen to Your Heart.
A year later, York received two movie roles in The Bear and Chattanooga Choo Choo. In 1986, the same year he acted as Todd in Night of the Creeps and shot guest roles on Hunter and Hotel, Vicki Manners, the casting director for the earlier film, became Mrs. York (again).
Then, 1987 turned out to be a successful year for York as he had appearances in the films House of the Rising Sun, Newhart, and the horror series Werewolf.
