Gregory acknowledged in a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest that he must prepare thoroughly before acting in a scene. Yet when it came to working with Nancy, he remarked, “You’re right—I’m not sure she’s read the screenplay when she arrives on the set. She’s fantastic to deal with, though. She is incredibly intelligent, nimble, and skilled at making decisions and picking up on cues from others in the room. We’ll have about an hour before we have to go upstairs if I sit down with her. By the end of the hour, she will have mastered all of these lines once we have run them. She succeeds when we ascend. I was initially thinking, “Well, is this how you work?” But once the camera starts rolling, it works, and I completely trust her. She never leaves. You know, she’s extremely enjoyable to work with.

She’s just a pretty fantastic actress, Gregory continued. She is acting with conviction. But she doesn’t—but I believe that not overthinking it is a part of her process. I enjoy overanalyzing things; I enjoy walking along the beach and imagining all the possible ways that a line could be said. Then, after doing all this acting work, I like to choose what feels right to me and what I really mean, walk onto the set, and add the last and most crucial component—what am I getting from the other actor?
