Spoilers for General Hospital indicate Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) hasn’t been handling her remorse very well, and she hasn’t been for a while. Elizabeth wasn’t acting rationally when she became involved in Nikolas Cassadine’s (Adam Huss) plan to kidnap Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl).
She wouldn’t have done it if she didn’t have such poor self-esteem and a tendency to pick herself up when she fell. In some respects, Elizabeth might have been prepared to give up, and it’s possible that she acted recklessly on purpose in the hopes of being discovered. Yet why?
General Hospital Spoilers — Elizabeth’s Anxiety Gets the Best of Her
Elizabeth admitted to the PCPD that she had kept Esme against her will and used that information to negotiate an amnesty agreement for herself. So why does she still not feel better? Elizabeth felt that wasn’t enough as Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Molly Lansing Davis (Haley Pullos) exited the questioning room. She needed to feel like she paid a price for this, so she needed to leave with less in some way.
She may have gone a long way with that friendship and is now ready to let it go after all these years if she doesn’t feel guilty about turning Nikolas in. Why can’t she get over the worry that being truthful won’t be enough to save her?
GH Spoilers Hint Peter August Didn’t Help
Knowing Elizabeth had the power to direct the police away from Esme and towards the actual Hook murderer, Heather Webber (Alley Mills), rather than Esme, didn’t make Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) feel any better. As Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) phrased it, Britt Westbourne’s (Kelly Thiebaud) life probably couldn’t have been spared, but Liesl won’t let go of the rage she needs to vent on someone. For the time being, Elizabeth will be that person, and she will come to understand that Liesl has every right to feel the way she does because she feels the same way.
Elizabeth has been preoccupied with worries about her personality, the reasons behind her actions, and how she manages to overcome them for months. She recently kept a similar secret from Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) about Peter August (Wes Ramsey), and despite understanding the world was better off without a guy like Peter, it almost broke her.
General Hospital Spoilers — Reiko Finn’s Blood is on Elizabeth’s Hands
The reality is that Elizabeth is still having a hard time accepting the fact that she contributed to Reiko Finn’s (Mele Ihara) passing. Elizabeth found it hard to comprehend what she had done after Finn let her off the hook so easy. Although her parents fought to shield her from responsibility, she ultimately overcame them.
Finn then made an attempt to ignore the situation and denied any fault on her part. Elizabeth was left with the impression that she had received too many breaks and hadn’t been held accountable for her actions, which she simply cannot live with despite the fact that everyone else can. Now that her amnesty agreement seems to be playing out in a similar way, Elizabeth may decide to renege on it in order to better her own morals and mental state.
