General Hospital Needs To Liven Up Sam McCall And Dante — Pronto

Dante and Sam’s General Hospital road to romance has been a little too smooth.

It’s rare to see a soap couple blissfully in love with no actual problems, but General Hospital has delivered that in Sam McCall and Dante Falconeri. However, Sam and Dante also illustrate the reason that soap couples should never be this happy. It makes them boring.

Sam McCall And Dante’s Smooth Sailing

It seems as though Dante’s (Dominic Zamprogna) and Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) path to love has been free of barriers from the beginning. When Dante recommended they move in together, Sam expressed her aversion to commitment, but other than that, they haven’t had any issues. They fell in love swiftly and announced their love before we could blink.

When Jason originally came back from the dead and returned to Port Charles, it is obvious that Drew (Cameron Mathison) was meant to be a barrier between Sam and Dante. However, when Steve Burton refused to receive a COVID vaccine and had to be fired, Jason experienced a second death. Although Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Sonny (Maurice Benard) were supposed to be together, Carly (Laura Wright), who can’t live without a love interest, switched to dating Drew.

Off-screen, Drew accepted Dante and Sam together, and that was the end of that. Since the Dante/Sam/Drew triangle, which lasted for roughly two weeks, Sam and Dante haven’t really had their own plot and were left without any sort of tension at all.

General Hospital Has Ready-Made Sante Conflict

Let’s not forget that Dante has an ex-wife who is currently in a coma and was about to tell him she still loved him when she suffered a brain injury and passed out; she hasn’t awakened since. There is still Lulu (last portrayed by Emme Rylan) at a special hospital, but hardly anyone mentions her or even acknowledges that she ever exists.

Bring back Lulu, and GH would have a plot they could claim as their own for Sante. We are confident that the soap opera can find some room in its budget to bring back a storied character like Luke and Laura’s only daughter if we can keep meeting new characters like Cody (Josh Kelly) and Dex (Evan Hofer). Because Drew is now permanently ensnared in the Cult of Carly, she has two teenage children on the screen and might bring a lot of trouble into Sam and Dante’s lives.

So, GH, what do you think? Please let Sam and Dante have their own story. Although they are adorable and attractive together, we would rather to see them experience a soap opera than continue living their current boring life.
