Soap Hub wishes Jane Elliot a very happy birthday!
It should be entertaining to watch what type of mischief Tracy Quartermaine will get into when she returns to General Hospital this spring. Actress Jane Elliot, who plays Tracy, stays out of trouble more often than not, but she is commemorating a significant achievement.
Happy Birthday, Jane Elliot
That’s because this acting powerhouse turned 76 years old today! She was born on January 17, 1947, in New York City, New York. In 1965, Elliot earned the lead part in the daytime drama A Flame in the Wind, which launched her illustrious career.
After FLAME was cancelled, Elliot had several guest appearances on well-known primetime shows like The Nurses, NYPD, The Mod Squad, The Bold Ones: The Lawyers, Kojak, and Barnaby Jones. She played a variety of characters in movies, including Sister Barbara in the Elvis Presley movie Change of Habit and Madge Frazier in One Is a Lonely Number.
She joined the ABC soap series General Hospital’s cast in 1978. Although Elliot played Tracy Quartermaine in several high-profile stories, the scene in which she withholds her father’s medication while he appears to be having a heart attack was arguably the most well-known from her first run.
The captivating performer stayed with GH for two years before deciding to leave in an effort to acquire new jobs. Elliot got the Daytime Emmy trophy for Best Supporting Actress to cap off her debut season.
After she left, Elliot appeared in the serial Knots Landing as well as the made-for-TV film Dan August: The Jealousy Factor. Despite the benefits of working in primetime, she eventually went back to the soaps.
She first portrayed multiple personality disorder sufferer Carrie Todd on Guiding Light before portraying gold-digger Cynthia Preston on All My Children from 1984 to 1986. Elliot created the character of Anjelica Deveraux on Days of our Lives in 1987, and she remained there until making a triumphant return to General Hospital in 1989.
The second time Elliot played Tracy, it lasted until 1993. After transferring the role to GH sister series The City in 1997, she would return to GH one more in 2003 until making an apparently final farewell in 2017. But she has since made a few more trips back and will visit once more in April.
Happy birthday to Jane Elliot and many more, from all of us at Soap Hub.
