Help this daytime veteran celebrate her special day.

There’s no one on General Hospital celebrating the life of the late Madeline Reeves…especially not the daughter she drugged into a coma and robbed of a child. Luckily, the same can’t be said of actress Donna Mills who is celebrating her own special milestone today.

Happy Birthday, Donna Mills

And that’s because this adored performer, who was born on December 11, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, is celebrating her 82nd birthday right now! At the Drury Lane Theater in Chicago, Mills made her stage debut in a rendition of Come Blow Your Horn. She was then chosen to perform in a touring version of My Fair Lady.

The daytime serial series The Secret Storm featured Rocket, a character in which Mills was cast in her debut television role in 1966. The following year would prove to be a successful one for Mills as she landed not only a regular position on the serial opera Love Is a Many Splendored Thing but also roles in Woody Allen’s Broadway play Don’t Drink the Water and her debut film, The Incident.

In the latter role, Mills played Laura Donnelly, a novice nun who left the order to compete with her sister (played by future General Hospital co-star Leslie Charleson) for a man’s heart in the television continuation of the same-titled 1955 film.

Before opting to move to the West Coast and try her luck in Hollywood, Mills stayed in the position for three years. She co-starred in the thriller Play Misty for Me, which was Clint Eastwood’s first attempt at directing, in 1971, alongside Jessica Walter and Clint Eastwood.

Mills continued to accrue acting credits throughout the 1970s. She co-starred in The Good Life, a brief-lived sitcom, from 1971 to 1972 alongside Larry Hagman, and appeared as a guest star on shows like The Six Million Dollar Man, Hawaii Five-O, Police Woman, The Love Boat, and several episodes of the UK anthology series Thriller (1973, 1974, 1975).

1980 saw Mills take on her most famous role as Abby Cunningham, the current schemer in Knots Landing. She portrayed the role for nine years in a row before coming back for the miniseries’ conclusion and succeeding season.

Sherry Doucette on Melrose Place (1996–1997), Lulu Grandiron, a plastic surgery junkie on Nip/Tuck (2008–2010), and Madeline Reeves on General Hospital are just a few of Mills’ past roles (2014-2015, 2018). Together with Fred Willard and Ray Wise, Mills received the Outstanding Special Guest Performer Daytime Emmy Award for her participation on the latter.
