The last time we saw Alicia Leigh portray Courtney Matthews on General Hospital was over two decades ago. The talented actress had a fantastic career on the soap opera and even received two Daytime Emmy nominations for her work. So it was a major shock when she abruptly left the ABC serial opera in 2006. Regarding the cause for her choice to quit General Hospital, the actress never really spoke about it. That changed, though, as she recently made an appearance on the talk programme of an ex-co-star.
We are aware that Maurice Benard, a former employee of General Hospital, broadcasts a mental health talk programme on his YouTube account. State of Mind is the name given to it. The most recent visitor on Maurice’s programme was Alicia Leigh, who served as his on-screen sister in the past. The former General Hospital employee revealed the unexpected reason for her departure during the conversation. When she stated that Maurice Benard was a significant contributing factor, we nearly assumed she was kidding. But once she went into great detail about what had occurred back then, everything made sense.
When she initially started working at General Hospital, Alicia acknowledged that she was too inexperienced and young. She had a tendency to take things quite personally. According to Alicia, she would automatically think that she was to blame for anyone’s poor mood if they were in her presence. Maurice Benard’s mood swings therefore had a significant impact on her when he was dealing with his bipolar disorder in the past. She had no idea what ailment he had. Alicia revealed that she and Maurice had a wonderful chemistry until it abruptly ended.
The former General Hospital employee remembered how anxious she was to attend shootings. She would always worry about which Maurice she would meet that day on the sets. He might be endearing at times and quite gloomy at other times. Alicia said that she was quite frightened. She would go cry in her dressing room because she felt this way. She eventually felt so upset that she thought it was best for her to leave the programme. People, according to Alicia, didn’t get her motivation. They would inform her that the producers were offering her an additional four years since she was performing well on General Hospital.
All of it did not, however, change Alicia’s mind; she ultimately left General Hospital. She expressed her feelings to Maurice, and he agreed that those were sad times for him. He even said that Tamara Braun, an actress, was the target of his fury (ex-Carly). Both Maurice and Alicia concurred that they have advanced much since then. And if they had the maturity we enjoy now back then, they would have discussed the situation.
Watching our idols so courageously acknowledge their pasts is really encouraging. even the shadowy and dubious portions. It gives us the confidence to accept our history and whatever errors we may have committed. Watch the General Hospital actors discuss their issues on Maurice’s show by clicking the link below! During the interim, you may keep watching General Hospital on ABC to see Maurice Benard as Sonny.
