It’s a big day of celebration for her!
Denise Alexander last appeared as Leslie Webber on General Hospital in early 2021, and today the actress has her own milestone to celebrate.
Happy Birthday, Denise Alexander
That’s because this great actress, who was born in New York City, New York, on November 11, 1939, celebrates her 83rd birthday today!
Alexander had a history with the drama with a strong medical component long before she assumed the lead role on GH. When Emergency Hospital was a short-lived anthology series, she had a brief role as Lorna Hill in the premiere episode, which was never shown.
Alexander had made numerous appearances in Broadway plays and radio episodes by the time she was a firmly established junior at UCLA. Crime in the Streets, directed by Don Siegel, was her first movie.
Denise Alexander focused on a career in television both during and after college, eventually accruing 200 credits. Lois Adams, a character on the CBS television series The Clear Horizon about astronauts and their families, was her first daytime role.
Then came a brief appearance as Emily Sanders on the NBC soap opera Ben Jerrod, which focused on small-town lawyers. Alexander later joined the cast of Ted Corday’s budding soap opera Days of our Lives in March 1966. Over the course of the following seven years, Alexander occupied a prominent role in a number of sensational storylines, including murder, a complete mental breakdown, and a love triangle involving two brothers.
In 1973, amidst delicate contract negotiations with DAYS, Alexander chose to vacate the part and instead join the cast of General Hospital. Just as she had at DAYS, Alexander played a pivotal leading lady, and for the next 13 years, Dr. Lesley Webber found herself the nucleus of multiple plot points.
However, just like before, stalled contract negotiations led to Alexander’s departure from one washboard weeper to another — this time, it was NBC’s Another World — although she would eventually return to GH, where she has made guest appearances for the past few decades. Soap Hub would like to wish Denise Alexander a very happy birthday and many more.
