Though it’s been a few years since soap fans have gotten to see the handsome veteran actor on their screens, Rick Hearst, who has appeared on all four soaps, has been a busy bee, and he has a big milestone to celebrate.

That’s because this great performer is celebrating his 58th birthday today! He was born on January 4, 1965, in Howard Beach, New York. Hearst, who was born Richard Charles Herbst, changed his last name, abbreviated his first name, and began attending auditions.
He played the title part in Frank Henenlotter’s Brain Damage, which was his very first acting credit. He joined the Days of our Lives cast in 1989, as Scotty Banning. He appeared as Alan-Michael Spaulding on Guiding Light a year later.
Hearst worked at GL for six years, and for his efforts in 1991, he was awarded the Outstanding Younger Actor Daytime Emmy. Hearst had appearances in a variety of well-known primetime shows after giving up the role of Alan-Michael, including Beverly Hills 90210, Pacific Blues, and Charmed.
In 2001, he accepted to play Matt Clark on The Young and the Restless, which marked his return to soap operas. His time in the role and on The Bold and the Beautiful, where he played Whipple “Whip” Jones, were both brief.
Hearst left B&B and accepted a job opportunity at General Hospital. On November 8, 2002, he made his acting debut as Ric Lansing, Sonny Corinthos’ half-brother. He stayed there up to June 25, 2009, after which he returned to the B&B, where he remained until 2011.
Hearst returned to General Hospital as Ric on February 24, 2014, and he remained there for two years. Hearst won two Daytime Emmys for his role on GH, both in the Outstanding Supporting Actor category (2004 and 2007).
Guest appearances on Castle, Daytime Divas, and Dynasty are among Hearst’s other projects. Hearst has two sons who he proudly raises with his wife of more than 30 years, Donna Smoot, outside of his acting career.
