The veteran soap opera actor passed away but left a legacy of memorable characters for soap fans.
Soap Hub has recently learned of the passing of soap hopper Robert Gentry on September 17, 2022, at the age of 81.
Robert Gentry: Left His Unique Signature On Daytime
Ross Chandler, who appeared on All My Children from 1983 to 1990, is best recognized as Gentry’s television role. Ross was the son of Palmer Cortlandt, a longtime nemesis of the cunning and strong Adam Chandler, who was portrayed by the late, great David Canary (played by the late James Mitchell). He was frequently seen working with his on-screen wife Kathleen Noone (Ellen Dalton) and on-screen daughter Lauren Holly (Julie Chandler) in the role, which earned him two Daytime Emmy nods.
Gentry, who was born in New York City, New York, on September 29, 1940, started his acting career at the age of 25 as Brad Murphy on the daytime drama The Doctors. Throughout his career, he would go on to play a variety of roles in other soap operas, including Dr. John Carr in A World Apart, Giles Morgan in One Life to Live, Jordan Hale, the evil character on Generations, Phillip Lyons in Another World, and Elliott Parker, the Forrester attorney, in The Bold and the Beautiful. Additionally, he played Dr. Ed Bauer on The Guiding Light in the late 1960s during a crucial few years when the future do-gooder was drinking and having a bad relationship with his parents, Bert Bauer (Charita Bauer) and Bill Bauer. Additionally, his character, Richard Hunt, dated Laura Horton on Days of our Lives (Ed Bryce).
Gunsmoke and Law & Order, two of the longest-running primetime series, both featured the actor. N.Y.P.D., Medical Center, The Streets of San Francisco, The Wide World of Mystery, Assignment Vienna, The F.B.I., Cannon, Police Story, Charlie’s Angels, Fantasy Island, Jake and the Fatman, Hunter, Matlock, and New York Undercover are just a few of the other primetime shows with which it has been associated.
In the legendary slasher film Dear Dead Delilah from 1972, Gentry starred opposite Agnes Moorehead. The Plastic Dome of Norma Jean, Standing Tall, and Perry Mason: The Case of the Fatal Framing were among her many film credits.
The SAG-AFTRA magazine memorial list for December noted Robert Gentry’s demise. To his loved ones, friends, and daytime viewers, Soap Hub extends his profound condolences.
