The author’s and his alone’s views on General Hospital are expressed here. They’re usually right on point, appropriately biting, and amusing.

Every admirer has their own view about General Hospital, and Soap Hub is no different. We observed everything—the good, the terrible, and everything in between—for five days, and now we’re here to give you a helpful recap and a lighthearted analysis of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: The Critic’s POV

Overall, this was yet another fun week. Wyndemere’s crazy antics came to a thrilling end, and if I had one significant quibble, it would be that THIS was the right moment to make pitchy princess Felicia (Kristina Wagner) the bad guy. I’m still sceptical that she, and not Maxie, was the one who first put that tyre iron in Peter’s head (Kirsten Storms). Mac (John J. York) was still a respectable stand-in for the original killer.

I must also extend a heartfelt apology to Chris and Dan/Dan and Chris. I’ve been preparing myself for months for an onslaught of negative remarks/slut-shaming aimed at Portia (Brook Kerr) and/or an outright vilification of the character, but the pair surprised me.

Trina (Tabyana Ali) even acknowledged she still loved her mother and the two of them would get past the problem — eventually — and Marshall’s (Robert Gossett) sharpest critique was that his daughter-in-law was only human. Taggert (Real Andrews) not only treated his former with admirable decorum.

I eagerly anticipate seeing a mother and daughter slowly but definitely come together. I’ve already had enough of Curtis’ whiny, irate attitude (Donnell Turner).

Further GH Musings

  • Kudos to Alley Mills (Heather Webber), Avery Kristen Pohl (Esme Prince), and Sofia Mattsson (Sasha Gilmore), who is sadly underappreciated and underused.
  • I can’t even begin to tell you how tickled it makes me that Michael (Chad Duell) and Josslyn (Eden McCoy) are now actively trying to keep Sonny (Maurice Benard) away from his loved ones — which is exactly what will happen once he’s behind bars — when that is the exact thing they bash Nina (Cynthia Watros) for. How can they possibly miss the irony? Ahead of their self-absorbed faces, it is!

That four seasons sunroom suite is so incredibly light and airy, my gosh. Never before have I been so jealous of a group. In any case, I fib. The Alden estate on Loving, Margo Dorn’s/April & Draper’s apartment on The Edge of Night, and John and Marlena’s initial penthouse on Days of our Lives are just a few soap opera sets that I have really coveted. The Quartermaine year-round addition is still beautiful to look at.
