The author’s and his alone’s views on General Hospital are expressed here. They’re usually right on point, properly biting, and amusing.
Every fan has their own perspective about General Hospital, and Soap Hub is no different. We watched everything—the good, the ugly, and everything in between—for five days, and now we’re here to give you a helpful recap and a lighthearted analysis of the GH week that was.
General Hospital: The Critic Gets Personal
Those of you who consistently visit this page — and I know there are two or three of you; in particular, Millie Martin, I appreciate your nice sentiments — know that I have never, ever taken a position on the dispute between Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) and Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros). They both disgust me. They both, in my opinion, are in the wrong. Furthermore, neither of these is “more incorrect” than the other.
The fact that the General Hospital writing staff went to such pains to bring me and the characters to this point truly irks me.
It was one thing for Carly to keep Nina’s relationship with Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier) a secret, but it was quite another for her to deliberately thwart Drew Cain’s (Cameron Mathison) efforts to find out the truth while also keeping quiet about Nina being Willow (Katelyn MacMullenbiological )’s mother. Ridiculous.
Moreover, have a look at what they did to Nina. The “Nixon Falls Incident” was the first act of integrity assassination, and ever since, they have portrayed the woman as the reincarnation of Gladys Kravitz. Then why? In order to increase the “drama factor” and almost exclude the possibility of Nina and Willow ever uniting as a loving mother and daughter.
All that was required was good, strong writing that accentuated the women’s rivalry that was already present.

Further GH Musings
- Josslyn Jacks is not a person I can ever see myself tolerating, but goddamn Eden McCoy is a great actor.
- It’s clear that the PTB at General Hospital is scrambling to decide what to do with Cody Bell, played by Josh Kelly. A chemical exam with Kirsten Storms [Maxie Jones] here, a chemistry test with Amanda Setton [Brook Lynn Quartermaine] there, and a chemistry test with Sofia Mattsson [Sasha Gilmore] there.
It is acknowledged that the team was somewhat taken aback by Kelly Thiebaud’s [Britt Westbourne] departure, but this is what happens when you lack a compelling backstory and/or the ability to change course when things don’t go as planned.
*I support a woman’s freedom of choice. In the end, it is her body. Having said that, I REALLY wish people would stop implying that Willow’s decision to delay starting her leukaemia treatment until she was in the second trimester made any kind of logical sense. It doesn’t, and I’m delighted Willow is beginning to understand that.
Speaking of Willow and her child, I’ve heard rumours in the soap community that most viewers anticipate an impending exchange with Esme Prince’s (Avery Kristen Pohl) progeny. I implore everyone connected to General Hospital to simply reject that option. I can’t endure one more Wiley/Jonah storyline. Simply cannot.
- Despite the fact that there weren’t as many scenes of their kind as there were last week, I’m grateful for Liz and Cameron’s encounters with Laura Collins (Genie Francis) and Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) (William Lipton).
- Why, oh why, would they have Nicholas Alexander Chavez’s character Spencer Cassadine suggest that he may be the father of Esme’s unborn child? In the days leading up to Esme’s romp with Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma), did the writers not take great efforts to have Spencer declare, on more than one time, that he and he were NOT sleeping together? I clearly recall that moment.
Additionally, I’d like to use this occasion to remind Chris and Dan/Dan and Chris that they already have TWO, and perhaps even THREE, unresolved paternity stories on the backburner, so adding yet another seems foolish at best and downright idiotic at worst.
However, I’ll put up with such a revisionist plot since, on General Hospital, are there any other kinds? IF they later disclose that Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) is actually Curtis Ashford’s (Donnell Turner) daughter and that Cody is actually Mac’s (John J. York) son.
